January 2011 ______________________________________________________

To help kick off a great RPCA conference in Pueblo, Colorado, a winter rail excursion over the 9,413 foot La Veta Pass is being planned. The conference, in conjunction with the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad, is proud to announce this special event. Participants will board buses at the Pueblo Marriott at 8 AM to travel to the town of La Veta. Here they will board the train which will have FP10A number 1100 as the locomotive. This FP10 was built in 1946 for the GM&O. Now the unit sports a beautiful SL&RG paint scheme. Once on board, refreshments including hot and cold drinks will be available for purchase. The menu offering sandwiches and snacks is being compiled. In addition, a special offer of gourmet wraps and soups will be offered for sale as well. Starting in La Veta and the train will travel westward over the top of the pass, into the San Luis Valley. The majestic snow covered Mount Blanca will greet us as we enter the Valley. Returning to La Veta, the special should arrive at 3:30 with a final arrival at 5 PM back in Pueblo.

Further details, including the cost of the excursion will be forth coming in the near future. Please look for the full announcement of the conference as well as this excursion by July 1. See you in Colorado, where railroading is always and adventure.
