2017 Total Solar Eclipse Journey

New York City NY – to  – Charlotte NC and return

Tour Highlights


This is a round-trip from New York NY, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Baltimore and Washington DC to Charlotte NC onboard the vintage Pennsylvania Railroad lounge / sleeper Colonial Crafts on Sunday 8/20 on Amtrak's Carolinian. We will be spending the night in Charlotte at a deluxe hotel.

On Eclipse Day, Monday 8/21 we will board a chartered motor coach for the 90 minute drive from Charlotte NC to Columbia SC, where our passengers will have the unique opportunity to observe the total solar eclipse and to enjoy the festivities of the “Eclipse in the Gardens” event at the Robert Mills House and Gardens in Columbia SC. Charter bus back to Charlotte Monday evening after the events to our hotel.

Tuesday 8/22 we will depart Charlotte on the Northbound Carolinian arriving back in the Northeast late that afternoon and evening after experiencing a literal once in a lifetime astronomical event.

This package includes:
  • Round trip rail transportation from the Amtrak station of your choice listed above.

  • Two nights Room and Tax accommodations in Charlotte, NC

  • Roundtrip Deluxe Motor Coach transportation from Charlotte, NC to Columbia, SC.

Many rail fans have been asking for an inexpensive re-positioning move. Here it is. Come join American Rail Excursions on an early fall private rail car tour to the “Big Easy”, New Orleans.

The popular song “The City of New Orleans” was written by Steve Goodman and first recorded by him. There were two major hit versions: first by Arlo Guthrie in 1972, and later by Willie Nelson in 1985.

Passengers have options of September 15, 16 or 17 for departure from the private cars in New Orleans. The cars will be your hotel.
